Building an independent future in a developing country is never easy for young people, but for some it's extra difficult. Think of the youth living in shelters and orphanages, the ones with disabilities or the ones that have dropped out of school and come from very poor families. They lack a social security system and often suffer from low self-esteem.

We believe that starting their own business will stimulate these young adults to be creative, self-confident and responsible. Also, creating a small business like a fruit stand or a sewing shop can serve as a means of support, a way to take part in local economy and is a contribution to the community.

Our approach consists of providing both financial aid and entrepreneurial training. Before giving the youth starting capital, we make sure they possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to make their businesses a success.

Child at Venture also supports shelters, orphanages and schools that are relying on donations or government grants but want to become more independent. We support all income generating activities at these institutions. Small businesses connected to social institutions not only generate an income, but create a place to learn and work for the resident children as well. Also, an enterprise can reduce the social isolation of the institute. Think for example of a guesthouse connected to an orphanage, or a shop to a farming school. We are constantly developing projects in Africa and Asia, and are always interested in new and innovative ideas.

Participation of the young people in every phase of the project - from formulation up to and including implementation - is an essential aspect of every project we support. Child at Venture never owns the companies we help to set up, ownership always remains with our local partners.
